Day 17

Beauty is closely linked to truth but not for all the reasons you might suspect. Truth seems filled with holes to finite men who see glimpses and pieces of the truth at any given time; but even then, only if their hearts are looking and pure. Beauty fills in the holes, the gaps; it says what words cannot say in filling in the missing pieces of understanding that the human soul must grasp to see truth in its entirety, its fullness. A baby's birth, a majestic mountain, a sprawling sea, can utter speech in the soul and spirit that words and language cannot always fully articulate. If I am speaking truth to a soul, leading it on the path of wisdom and understanding, I must throw beauty along his/her path so that that soul can truly "see" truth with the eyes of the heart. What is often overlooked with regards to beauty is that it appears differently to everyone. I often put you on life journeys with others who see beauty very much as you do. Seeing beauty in others is why you love whom you do. The eyes are the windows to the soul and what you see in others that you love is your perception of their beauty. When two people love each other, they have a shared perception of the good and beautiful (Jm. 1:17).
